The town of Kitty Hawk in Dare County, North Carolina is over 100 years old, making it one of the oldest towns on the Outer Banks.  As with most towns on the Outer Banks, Kitty Hawk, is well known for its beaches. This makes Kitty Hawk a perfect choice for those seeking a true waterfront lifestyle.   Kitty Hawk is also home to the Kitty Hawk Fishing Pier and Hilton Garden Inn, Seascape Golf Links, Walmart, Home Depot, a Harris Teeter and numerous locally owned businesses, restaurants and retail shops. There are several parks and picnic areas in the town, a skate park, a boat launch and multi-use paths for non-motorized pedestrian traffic.  Kitty Hawk Woods, part of the North Carolina Coastal Reserve, is  a 1900 acre maritime forest preserve, is also located within the town and there are over two miles of trails that can be enjoyed by hikers, bicyclists and horseback riders.

A History of Excellence 

Kitty Hawk is often known for the Wright Brothers and the site where the first flight took place. The brothers successfully made their first controlled powered airplane flights nearby, in the area of Kill Devil Hills. They chose the area, due to high levels of wind and the soft landing spots for their gliders among the sand dunes. After the first flight the Wright brothers walked 4 miles to the village of Kitty Hawk to send a telegram to their father to report  about their accomplishment. The actual location and the monument to flight is located in what is now the town of  Kill Devil Hills, but was then Kitty Hawk.
